St Peter and St Paul, Old Brampton

Farewell and Thank You

The double issue of 'Together' means that when it appears in late November, there will still be seven weeks before Rev'd Tony leaves his ministry at St. Peter and St. Paul for Bakewell - not forgetting Over Haddon, Ashford in the Water and Sheldon.

However, far from being a period of winding down, it includes one of the busiest times of the year for the Church, with the spiritual preparation for Christmas through Advent, a Christingle Service, our MMA Inauguration, Farewell to the Group, at least five Carol Services, a wedding, baptisms, all the Christmas services..... and much more. There is no question of Tony going out with a whimper, even if he wanted to!

No damp squibs are not in Tony's nature. Fireworks, candles, balloons, laughter and fun - yes. Activity, energy, enthusiasm, but also a deep spiritual sincerity and commitment typify him, and all these will be among our lasting memories.

The seven and a half years of tony's ministry have gone very quickly and we thank him most sincerely for all the blessings that he has brought during that time. Even though it won't necessarily make the history books, Tony is the last incumbent of Old Brampton as an individual parish, after 750 years. space here limits reference to the number of firsts... but donkeys, pancakes, ancient egyptians and a reaching out to wider community could start the list.

Rachel too has made invaluable contributions to the life of the Parish in so many ways - thank you for them all - and we have enjoyed seeing Benedict grow from pre-Primary to just-Secondary.

Old Brampton will still be on tony's route from Bakewell to Chesterfield Football Club and other important venues.... and as long as he's got a Morris Minor convertible, he cannot exactly be anonymous!

Our love, warmest thanks and prayers go with you all to the next stage of your dedicated ministry.

Au Revoir - and God Bless You.
