Nativity Scene

Christmas 2006 at Old Brampton

It was standing room only for the Christmas Eve Crib Service at Old Brampton church.  Until 4.00pm on
Christmas Eve the Churchwardens believed that the seating capacity was 220, but over 300 adults and children managed to squeeze in to celebrate the nativity of our Lord.  People poured into the pews, the choir stalls, and filled all the loose chairs provided.  Several people had to remain standing throughout the service.

Who says that Christianity is irrelevant in this post-modern age?

The service, as is the custom, included a nativity play performed by children of families associated with Old Brampton Church.  This year the play included several modern, humorous touches to the delight of parents, grandparents and the congregation as a whole.  All the children, of all ages were delightful but the 3 rocking wise man are worth a special mention.

It was wonderful to see so many children and young people involved in the service and also those present in the congregation, even if the noise level rose a few decibels.  It was a wonderful occasion for the families involved and for the whole family of the Church.

Many thanks are due to Ingrid Stopher and her team for producing the play.

Much later in the evening, 11.30pm., to be precise, saw the start of the Midnight Mass, the First Eucharist of Christmas.   This was a very special service for everyone and the music of the choir and the light of the candles greatly enhanced our worship.

An All- age Eucharist with carols, presents and chocolate followed on Christmas Day.  The young people brought an unopened present with them to open during the service, and ….chocolate?
Revd. Tony, with his customary fun and with great joy as befitting the occasion, told the Christmas story with the aid of a mountain of chocolate bars and sweets.  Anyone guessing the connection was in receipt of a shower of chocolate!  Truly a day to celebrate. (Celebrations !!!!)

It was a Christmas to remember for the faith community of St Peter and St Paul, Old Brampton, and a time to reflect on God’s goodness to us and the many gifts he has bestowed on us.
