Dear Friends

Women's Institute

Members were welcomed to the March meeting by our President Mrs D Waller, who then thanked the secretary, Mrs Olive Hoddle for the lovely display of yellow tulips on the Presidents table.

The minutes were read and members were pleased to hear that the Luncheon Club had been a great success and further dates were announced.

A report was given on the Annual meeting, held in the Winding Wheel, attended by the mayoress, the High Sheriff and his wife. Mr Darren Fitzpatrick was the morning speaker and he explained all about the reclamation firm he worked for. Members were pleased to hear that the firm employed people with learning disabilities and that they have a happy workforce.

Sub committees then reported and members were delighted to hear at the success of the Cuba challenge and the amount of money raised for Denman College. A windfall of £50,000 had come to the Federation and it is hoped to install a stained glass window in Derbyshire house.

The afternoon speaker was Christine Hamilton, who had a good voice and presence and gave a light hearted and humorous talk.

Mrs Joan Newton was our speaker at our monthly meeting and she gave us a fascinating talk about the history and art of pressed flowers and how her hobby had eventually taken her to the other side of the world, where she had spoken at the Pressed Flower Guild in Tokyo in 2000.

Mrs Pam Foster gave the vote of thanks and teas were served by Mrs Joan Holmes and friends. Our next meeting is on April 10th at 2.00pm in the School Room at Old Brampton and visitors would be very welcome to come and hear about ‘The work of the Contact Centre’.
