Flowers and cards were sent to Marjorie Slaughter and   Kathleen Frost wishing them a speedy recovery.

Mrs Margaret Sutton asked for names for those wanting to go on the trip to Taddington for the Well Dressing.

In place of the August meeting, there will be a Garden Party to raise funds for this year's charity, The Contact Centre, at the home of the president, Mrs Waller.

Mrs Hilary Daughtrey, the afternoon speaker, explained that she had taken up hat making as a way to express her creativity. She had made all the hats and fascinators on display. She uses straw, silk, felt and a fabric made from banana leaves which stretches and is very light.

Mrs Iris Savidge thanked Mrs Daughtrey for her lively talk. Mrs Hilary Cox and friends served tea, and the meeting closed at 4pm
