OLD BRAMPTON W.I.

Mrs D Waller welcomed members, and a visitor, to the September meeting. The August Garden Party, held     indoors due to the inclement weather, raised £215 for the Contact Centre in Chesterfield. Tickets for the   Autumn Council Meeting in Derby were given out. Members were reminded about the Group meeting on 19th October, at Coal Aston.

A party for Mrs Pam Foster's 90th Birthday will be held at the School Room on 24th September, at 2. 30 p.m.

Derbyshire Federation is also 90 years old this year. A new rose, called Derbyshire Dawn has been grown to     commemorate the event. There will be celebrations throughout the year including several road-shows.  Details will be in Derbyshire Link.

In August 15 ladies enjoyed a trip to the Taddington Flower Festival and Well Dressing. The theme was Derbyshire women of Note. Mrs M. Sutton was thanked for organizing the visit.

The talk, on Fire Safety in the Home, was given by Mr Terry Crofts. 300 people a year die in fires. Smoke kills 3 out of 4 people who die in house fires. Mr Crofts advised everyone to check before retiring, that doors are closed and plugs removed from sockets. He stressed the importance of testing smoke alarms frequently and cleaning them 3 or 4 times a year. Derbyshire Fire Service will give free fire checks and fit free alarms on request. Mrs A Crossley gave the vote of thanks and teas were served by Mrs D Merifield and Mrs M.Fenwick
